Protocol and Communication for Weather Updates
Mercedes ISD is committed to providing families with accurate and timely information in the event of inclement weather or other urgent matters impacting our schools and community. Administration recognizes the importance of maintaining regular school operations to support student learning and development. However, the safety of our students, staff and community will always be our top priority when determining any adjustments to school or office operations.
Please Note: The district will only announce a closure, delay, or early dismissal when a decision is made. If there is no announcement from Mercedes ISD, classes will be held on a normal schedule.
Official Communication
The superintendent will make the official decision as to whether classes will be held. When bus routes are canceled or rescheduled, or schools are closed or delayed, Mercedes ISD will inform families through the following forms of communications:
1. Emergency Notification System (text, phone call, and email to parents)
o Make sure all contact information is accurate in Skyward to receive notifications. Contact your child(ren)’s school if corrections are needed.

Mercedes ISD families: Due to severe weather and flooding in the Mid Valley area, Mercedes ISD has canceled classes for Friday, March 28, 2025. MISD staff is also assessing facilities for any damages or flooding from the inclement weather, and repairs will be made accordingly.
The District continues to actively monitor the weather and will collaborate with local emergency management officials. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are of paramount importance. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Please take all necessary precautions and stay safe.
Queridas familias Mercedes, Debido al mal tiempo y las inundaciones en la zona de Mid Valley, el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Mercedes ha cancelado las clases del viernes 28 de marzo de 2025. El personal del MISD también está evaluando las instalaciones para detectar posibles daños o inundaciones causadas por el mal tiempo y se realizarán las reparaciones correspondientes.
El Distrito continúa monitoreando activamente el clima y colaborará con los funcionarios locales de gestión de emergencias. La seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y personal son de suma importancia. Gracias por su paciencia y cooperación. Mercedes ISD families: The Shelter-In-Place issued today by Mercedes ISD has been lifted at 4:52 p.m. School buses may run slower due to the weather conditions. Due to forecasted inclement weather, a Shelter-In-Place has been activated for all Mercedes ISD campuses and facilities today, Thursday, March 27, 2025, until further notice. All afterschool activities, including ACE and meetings have also been canceled.
Debido al mal tiempo pronosticado, se ha activado la medida de confinamiento en todos los campus e instalaciones del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Mercedes hoy, jueves 27 de marzo de 2025, hasta nuevo aviso. También se han cancelado todas las actividades extraescolares, incluyendo ACE y las reuniones.
