Mercedes, TX – Following feedback to the district’s March 2025 Innovative Schools survey and a successful first round of town halls, Mercedes ISD is announcing two additional community meetings.
These sessions will continue the important conversations about moving forward with proposed bold initiatives, including the launch of the Elevated Middle School Experience at Sgt. Chacon Middle School and the creation of three Innovative STEAM+ Elementary Schools designed to reflect the evolving needs of students today and tomorrow.

At these sessions, Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Clinton will:
Present draft plans for the Elevated Middle School Experience at Chacon Middle School, which will combine Chacon and Harrell Middle School students and staff onto one enhanced campus.
Introduce plans for three Innovative STEAM+ Elementary Schools, including a reimagined Harrell Elementary that will serve students and staff from Taylor and Kennedy Elementary Schools, supported by updated attendance zones.
Share how some students will be rezoned to Hinojosa and Travis Elementary Schools to ensure balanced enrollment and equitable access to high-quality programs.
Invite you to help shape the Mission, Vision, and Beliefs that will guide the future of Mercedes ISD.
Gather your ideas, concerns, and feedback as we work together to design schools that truly reflect the needs of our students and families.
