Mercedes, TX – The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to officially approve the reorganization and consolidation of campuses at the Tuesday, May 20, 2025 regular school board meeting, marking a transformative step in the district’s commitment to student-centered learning and future-ready education.
This board-approved plan, shaped by months of community engagement, survey feedback, and town hall discussions, includes the following key components:
• An Elevated Middle School Experience: Sgt. Manuel Chacon Middle School will serve as the unified middle school campus, bringing together students and staff from both Sgt. Chacon and Sgt. William G. Harrell Middle Schools. This consolidation aims to enhance academic offerings and extracurricular opportunities.
• Three Innovative STEAM+ Elementary Schools, including a reimagined Sgt. Harrell Elementary, designed to reflect the evolving needs of students.
• Updated Attendance Zones to ensure balanced enrollment and equitable access to high-quality programs.
