Mercedes, TX – The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Dr. Alicia Noyola as Interim Superintendent, effective immediately. The decision was made during the regular board meeting held on May 20, 2025.
Dr. Noyola brings over 30 years of experience in public education, including 17 years of service at Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD), where she most recently served as Superintendent. Widely recognized for her student-centered leadership and commitment to academic excellence, Dr. Noyola guided HCISD through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, opened an Early Childhood Academy, achieved International Baccalaureate designation for three campuses, and implemented a dynamic learning approach that strengthened individualized student pathways and academic ownership.
"We are confident that Dr. Noyola's extensive experience and commitment to educational excellence will greatly benefit Mercedes ISD," said Marcos Garcia, School Board President. "Her dedication to students and history of forward-thinking innovation aligns with our district's goals and community values."
The appointment of Dr. Noyola comes as the district embarks on the next phase of its campus reorganization and consolidation plan, which includes the launch of three new Innovative STEAM+ Elementary Schools and the transition to an Elevated Middle School Experience at Sgt. Manuel Chacon Middle School.
Dr. Noyola expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for joining the Mercedes ISD community.
