Our district and campus personnel engage in medical emergency response team drills throughout the academic year to equip them with the skills needed for an effective response to medical emergencies.
Earlier this week, the Mercedes ISD Medical Emergency Response Team conducted a comprehensive drill at the Mercedes Early College Academy. This simulation provided a valuable opportunity for staff to review and evaluate response procedures in the context of emergency scenarios. This ongoing commitment to preparedness ensures a prompt and coordinated response when faced with critical situations.
The drill, overseen by District Nurse Veronica Bustamante, RN, had the participation of MECA Principal Ramon Mejia, MECA nurse Judy Hernandez, LVN, Department of Safe Schools staff, and included a teacher and student. Congratulations to the Chacon Middle School students who participated in the Invitational Meet at Kenneth White Jr. High School in Mission this past weekend. The competition was tough as 29 other schools were in attendance. Our CMS Tigers did an outstanding job...19 of our students advanced to the semi-finals and five moved on to the finals.
We would like to give a huge shout-out to our finalists for placing in their event: Elise Rocha, Poetry; Lia Rodriguez, Modern Oratory; Yareli Murillo, Spanish Poetry; and Elise Rocha and Daniella Ureste, Duet Acting. Great job students and coaches!
Congratulations to the Mercedes ISD Tiger band members who earned chairs in the prestigious TMEA Region 28 Honors Band! 🌟🎶 Adrian Gonzalez (trumpet) and Alonzo Cabrera (clarinet) joined students from the entire region to showcase their skills during a concert at the Harlingen Performing Arts Center.

Students from John F. Kennedy Elementary recently participated in the annual IMAS Christmas Tree Forest decoration contest. The "Camp North Pole"-themed ornaments were crafted by Kennedy students and the Student Council officers decorated the tree at the IMAS, adding a touch of Tiger magic to the annual exhibit. The tree will be on display throughout the season among RGV elementary schools, middle schools, community groups, businesses and families. 🌟❄

Mercedes Academic Academy students are well on their way to "making spirits bright" for Mercedes senior citizens with their Second Annual Santa for Seniors initiative. 🎁🎄Donation boxes have been placed at each campus as well as the Administration Building on behalf of all MAA students and the MAA Student Council.
Last year, students proudly presented two gifts to each resident of the Mid Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, thanks to the generosity of our community. What an amazing show of support!

It provided a great opportunity for our parents to hear from and engage with Elementary Curriculum Director Evangelina O. Gracia and Secondary Curriculum Director Angela De La Fuente to learn more about the program.
