Thank you to Ninfa Purcell, PhD, of College Station, for the impactful presentation at this morning’s Fentanyl Awarness Parent Workshop. Dr. Purcell provided critical insights on the dangers of fentanyl, how it is impacting communities across Texas, and also equipped attendees with life-saving resources, including free naloxone and training on its administration. A special thanks to Head Nurse Veronica Bustamante and Family Engagement Specialist Dr. Mireya Garcia for their dedication in organizing this educational event for our community. A huge congratulations to Lady Tiger Stephanie Cano for her great finish at the UIL 5A Regional Cross Country Meet! Stephanie placed 39th out of 183 runners in an extremely competitive field. She was also the first female athlete from District 32-5A to cross the finish. 👟🐾 Stephanie finishes her XC career as the 4th fastest female in Mercedes history—an outstanding achievement! 🎉👏 #MISDpride

📢 Attention Mercedes ISD families: Starting Monday, November 4, 2024, free COVID-19 tests will be available at your child’s school, while supplies last. Tests will be available for pick up at the school's front office or from the school nurse, and will also be distributed during student pick-up times. Each student is eligible to receive two (2) boxes. Mercedes High School RGV LEAD Ambassadors recently attended a Fall Leadership Workshop at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley campus in Weslaco. Ambassadors took advantage of the opportunity to learn and collaborate with peers from across the RGV. 💡📚🎓 As part of RGV LEAD, Ambassadors gain leadership, college, and career-readiness skills while building meaningful connections. We are excited to see how these students grow from these experiences and bring their new insights back to their school community. #MISDpride

It was recently Student Organization Recruitment Day at Mercedes High School! 🌟🐅 MHS students visited with representatives from school clubs and organizations to learn more about ways to get involved in campus life. Special Agent Ariana Gonzalez from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was a guest speaker for Ms. Lizcano’s Principle’s of Law class at Sgt. Manuel Chacon Middle School where students gained some useful insight on this particular U.S. government agency.

Thank you to Mercedes ISD alumna Alyssa Cano, PA-S for visiting with our Travis Elementary students! The first grade students attended her special presentation following the completion of Unit 2 in their Amplify curriculum, which focuses on understanding basic human anatomy. Ms. Cano's engaging and informative talk deepened the students' knowledge and curiosity, making this an enriching and memorable learning experience!
